Rubber Wood Sample Collection in Bolikhamxay Province

On August, 21st 2026 , an Australian expert, together with VALTIP4 project researchers (ACIAR FST/2023/153), conducted a field visit to Bolikhamxay province to purchase 15 rubber trees from plantations for research and experimental testing under the project.

🔬 The purpose of the visit was to:
📌 Purchase and collect 15 rubber trees from local plantations for material property testing (e.g., strength, durability)
📌 Bring samples back for laboratory analysis to assess the suitability of rubber wood for use in wood processing industries
📌 Build a scientific dataset to support the development of rubber wood value chains in Laos

During the visit, the team met with plantation owners, selected and purchased the trees, also measured tree size and age – before transporting the samples for laboratory analysis.

✨ This work is an important part of VALTIP4’s research into value-addition options for rubber wood — a species with strong potential that remains underutilised in Laos.
